Botanical Name: Apuleia Leiocarpa
Common Name: Garapa
Other Common Names: Brazilian Ash, Grapia, Amarealao, Marotoa, Muiratua, Muirajuba
General Characteristics: A fine-grained timber that is light yellow to a warm golden hue. Garapa is an exotic hardwood that is naturally resistant to rot, decay and insect attack. Garapa is naturally scratch resistant which allows the surface to remain smooth for many years.
Moisture Content of Decking: Our Garapa Decking is specially dried for use on exterior projects.
We also sell Garapa lumber kiln dried specifically for interior use. DO NOT use kiln dried interior lumber in exterior projects as it will expand. Garapa Decking dried for exterior use will shrink inside.
Janka side hardness: 1,650 lb at 12% moisture content.
Bending Strength: 12,900 psi
Working Properties: Has a blunting effect on cutters, use of carbide tipped saw blades is necessary. Routs nicely. Must be predrilled for fastening.
Distribution: South America
Durability: Great durability with a very high resistance to daily wear and tear. Garapa also features a Class B fire rating.
Uses: Exterior jointery, carpentry, ship building, turned goods, furniture, flooring, stairs, tool handles, exterior decking.
