Recent words from our president: September already, my, how time flies. We're going into Fall soon and activities begin to come in bunches. Our attendance through the summer has held up well. There were 33 signed in for our August meeting, members and guests. Tom Soyke brought us a good demo on basic mortise and tenon techniques. He made it look so easy. September meeting will be a continuation of "joints". Thanks Tom, good job. New member, Ken Mattis again brought a truckload of hardwood cut-offs. That should supply us all with material for another project. Thanks Ken. Thanks to all who brought in an item for "show and tell" ,
especially the member who brought a beautiful panel of a piece
he's working on for the fair. He wouldn't tell us what it's going
to be. Hmm, I wonder.....I guess we'll find out in February.
Keep those show and tells coming in. If you're thinking of entering
a piece into the fair, Jim Smith gave us a talk about protecting our lungs and airways from damaging dust and fumes. He said to use dust masks and /or respirators when called for, or suffer the consequences. Ask him about it. Thanks Jim for the warning, and I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers The "going for the green" challenge is coming up in November. Rules are easy: Your item must be crafted from recycled materials. The wood used must have been used before for something else: i.e.: table legs, or fence post, window sill, or church pew, etc. you get the idea. All metal, glass, etc. must be recycled. Get those creative juices flowing, go dump picking, dumpster diving or whatever it takes to get your materials. It's fun, get in the spirit. Our annual banquet is set for October 18. Put it on your calendar. More on that later. Next meeting is September 18th, 7PM. Be there and bring a friend. Happy crafting, Other Local Clubs: Tricounty
